Welcome to The Spring Lake Project, where warmth, fun, and modern ease come together in this home-away-from-home beach residence. Our free-spirited, Brooklyn-based clients envisioned a retreat that reflects their fun and quirky personalities while still feeling thoughtful and lived-in. They wanted to incorporate natural materials with a nod to retro 1960s inspiration throughout the home, setting the tone from the softly planked wood ceilings to the pale floors that reflect daylight and create a seamless flow from room to room.
The palette is grounded in warm neutrals and sun-washed tones, punctuated by moments of color that feel intentional rather than purely decorative. The living spaces feel both sculptural and inviting, layered with tactile upholstery, uniquely shaped furniture, and gentle curves. The goal in designing each space was to keep rooms feeling edited yet approachable—created for everyday living, not just visual impact. Colors are balanced with earthy tones, including sunshine yellow as a recurring decorative thread throughout the entire home.

The homeowners’ love for art, books and music is evident, as they provided personal pieces that served as inspiration. Their passion for reading was a necessity in every common space, leading us to carefully select comfortable, individualized seating, side tables for books, open shelving for display, and movable surfaces that allow them to create their own pods of relaxation.
In the kitchen and dining areas, natural light takes center stage. Expansive windows blur the line between indoors and out, while warm wood paneling, soft blue cabinetry, and bold light fixtures create an atmosphere that feels fresh and welcoming. Playful pops of color in the seating bring energy and fun, perfectly matching the clients’ charisma.

In the office, a hand-painted portrait of Bob Dylan by local artist Kathleen Palmieri anchors the main wall, adding personality and depth while celebrating the homeowners’ love for music and the cultural movements of the 1960s. To continue the pop of yellow throughout the house, a mustard velvet sofa was a must—for taking calls, reading, and relaxing.

The end result? A home-away-from-home beach retreat that feels cohesive and confident—modern yet warm, curated yet relaxed. A place where texture, light, and thoughtful details work together to create spaces that feel timeless, comfortable, and effortlessly elevated.
